The goal of the life skills program set up by Ruby Thomas is to practice skills that
will empower students to become positive and productive members of their school and
community. Below are sixteen life skills, and their definitions which will help improve
social relationships, cooperation, and the development of self.
Respect - means to have consideration for others
Integrity-means to be honest, sincere, and to conduct oneself according
to what is right and what is wrong
Initiative-means to help others, be assertive, and have concern for self and others
Flexibility- means to be adaptable
Perseverance- means to continue and not give up
Organization- means that they will maintain orderly spaces, learn
how to set goals and plan
Sense of Humor- is the ability to laugh and be playful
Effort- is a notable achievement Common sense- means to use good
judgment Problem solving- means seeking solutions to
everyday problems as well as to more difficult dilemmas
Responsibility- means to be accountable for your actions
Patience- means to have self-control and possess
the ability to listen carefully to instructions
Friendship- means to have companionship, fellowship, and society
Curiosity- means to have the desire to find out more about something
Cooperation- is the practice of how to share ideas, to accomplish goals, and to tolerate
differences
Caring- feeling and exhibiting concern and empathy for others
